Fresh Eyes On Your Crafting Supplies – Less Is More

Holidays / Special Days/ Paper crafting/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Hello stamping peeps! Thanks for popping in. I have a new tip today, Fresh Eyes On Your Crafting Supplies – Less Is More. I don't know about you, but sometimes I forget a rule of thumb I've heard forever about makeup; less is more! Did your mom ever tell you this? Perhaps you've told your own daughter this tip? Well, the same thing can apply to crafting.

Fresh Eyes On Your Crafting Supplies - Less Is More

Notice there are three different types of ribbon on the front of this card, but just small pieces of each type. I love ALL my ribbon, but it certainly goes farther if I don't always tie it around the entire card and end with a bow. Same thing holds for Designer Series Paper; sometimes less is more! I think the small piece of paper on this card actually works better than if a much larger piece had been used. Do you agree? Would love for you to leave a comment below and tell me your thoughts.

Here are the instructions, measurements and supply list for today's Fresh Eyes On Your Crafting Supplies – Less Is More project. If you need to order any supplies, click here to go to my online store. There are tons of great new products in the Holiday Catalog!

12 Weeks Of Halloween Week 5 – Happy Owloween

Holidays / Special Days/ Online Classes/ Online Stamp Clubs/ Samples/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Hey stampers! It's hard for me to totally get into the Halloween spirit when it's 90 degrees outside, but I'm giving it a good try! My project for you today is 12 Weeks of Halloween Week 5 – Happy Owloween. I'm going to have to find a way to keep using this adorable little owl after Halloween because he is just too cute to file away!

12 Weeks Of Halloween Week 5 - Happy Owloween

You'll find full instructions at the end of the post, but I wanted to point out a few things. The focal point of this little treat bag is made from our Spooky Night Designer Series Paper (DSP).  There are so many fun patterns and the orange and black cats can be punched out using the Cat Punch; easy peasy!

12 Weeks Of Halloween Week 5 - Happy Owloween

I just took one of the 12 x 12 sheets, chopped it up into 3 x 3 pieces and then simply stamped the owl on top. I used Basic Gray ink (which made the owl lighter than the black tree branch) so I didn't even have to mask the tree. The owl blended right in. If you aren't sure how to mask, click here to see an earlier post where I explain the technique. While there is a image in this stamp set for the beak and feet, I found it easier to use a Pumpkin Pie marker right on the image and color.

I cut little slivers of Pumpkin Pie Cardstock to create the curls inside the top of the bag. The Stampin' Up! Paper Trimmer works great for this and then I used the end of a pencil to curl the paper. Another tip; you can make this project as is, or use the design for cards.

Supplies:

  • Stamp Set Spooky Cat (P-144749)
  • Stamp Pads – Archival Gray (140932) Black (140931) Stamp Pad
  • Cardstock – Pumpkin Pie (105117)
  • Misc. – Spooky Night Designer Series Paper (DSP) (144610), SNAIL Adhesive (104331), Stampin Dimensionals, Big Shot (143263), Mini Treat Bag Thinlits (137547), Magnetic Platform (130658), Black Rhinestone Jewels (144639), 5/8” Burlap Ribbon, Linen Thread (104199), Wood Textures DSP Stack (144171), Pumpkin Pie Marker (131259-Brights set), Black Marker (131261 – Neutral Set), Tear & Tape Adhesive (138995), Stampin’ Trimmer (126889)

Measurements:

  • Spooky DSP: 3” x 3” of orange piece with black tree
  • Wood Textures DSP: two of the same piece
  • Burlap Ribbon: 10”
  • Linen Thread: 8”

Instructions:

  1. Cut Spooky DSP piece/s at 3” between every tree piece (you will end up with 16 pieces per DSP sheet)
  2. Stamp owl using Gray ink so feet are resting on tree branch.
  3. Stamp“happy owloween” onto owl using black ink.
  4. Using Pumpkin Pie marker, color in beak and feet. Using black marker, color in white around eyes. Attach small black rhinestone into center of each eye. Set aside.
  5. Cut out Treat bag using Mini Treat Bag Thinlits and put together using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
  6. Put one Stampin Dimensional on each corner on the back of stamped DSP square and adhere to bag front.
  7. Thread piece of Burlap Ribbon around bag, through owl piece and tie linen thread into a bow around ends of burlap. Trim off as desired.
  8. Attach three black rhinestones to bottom of bag.
  9. Cut 8-10 1/8” strips of Pumpkin Pie Cardstock. Roll around end of a pencil to create a curled piece.
  10. Put SNAIL on one end of curled pieces and attach to inside of bag. You might need to re-curl strips once strips are positioned.

I hope you'll give this 12 Weeks Of Halloween Week 5 – Happy Owloween project a try! If you've missed my other Halloween projects,  you can start here for Week 1 and then scroll through. I have lots of great projects, tips and techniques in older posts!

Remarkable You – Masculine Greeting Card

Holidays / Special Days/ Mojo Monday/ Paper crafting/ Stamping

Hey stampers! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I got to play in my stamp room AND take my 2 of my grandcherubs on a shopping trip. What could be better! Today's project is a Remarkable You – Masculine Greeting Card. It's so much easier for me to make girly girl cards than to make “manly” ones. I think this one fits the bill quite nicely for any guy!

Remarkable You - Masculine Greeting Card

The Cajun Craze and Early Espresso inks work perfectly to create rich tones in this card. Notice the accent pieces of Wood Grains Designer Series Paper DSP) on the front and inside of the card. When you use smaller pieces, instead of covering up the entire card front, your paper will go SO much farther!

Speaking of DSP, have you heard the great news? Starting October 1 and continuing through the entire month of October, when you purchase three packages of select Designer Series Paper, you'll get another package for FREE! Stampin' Up! has included select Specialty and Designer Series Paper Stacks this year as well! Here are the Designer Series Paper Sale Items:

Remarkable You - Masculine Card

Did you notice the Wood Textures Stack used on today's project is included! Just like our 12 x 12 DSP paper, this 6 x6 stack is double-sided, giving you unlimited choices. One additional feature of our 6 x6 packages is they are no longer attached at the top so it is so easy to pull out a single sheet without fear of tearing it! Why not click here to go to my online ordering site and then bookmark it. When October 1 rolls around, you'll be ready to hit the DSP Sale!

I've included pictures of all the project supplies below and it you would like a PDF with detailed measurements and instructions, please just email me!

Have a great week and I hope today's sample inspires you!

Merry Patterns Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

During September and October, Stampin' Up!'s Merry Patterns stamp set is a free gift added to any order of at least $300. One of my customers placed her annual Holiday Catalog order and was thrilled to know this will be an “extra freebie”! We sure love those don't we!

This limited-time stamp set is only available during this time period and features two step stamping images. There is an outline stamp and one with patterns. In my card today, you stamp the pattern image first and then the outline.

Stampin' Up!'s Merry Patterns

In this short video you'll see some ideas for using this fabulous stamp set and you might see some different way to have a “party” to earn it. HINT: there are ways to get this limited edition stamp set that don't involve cleaning your home or baking snacks! 🙂

OK, let's get to it. Do you want this set? I know you do! If you have friends who order Stampin' Up! products (even if they live in another state), I'll help you combine orders so that you can earn this set. Give me a shout at anne@stampmaven.com so we can get the ball rolling!
