Watercolor Techniques Wednesday

Big Shot/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques/ Videos

Hey stampers! Today is Watercolor Techniques Wednesday here on the blog. There are so many different ways to use plain old water with various Stampin' Up! products to create some fun and unique looks!

My first project uses a new stamp set, Floral Statements. This stamp set is available in both wood and clear mount and gives you so many options for coloring. Today's card uses Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, and Fresh Fig, one of our new 2017-2019 In Colors. The color combo is something I've never used before. It's fun to try “out of the box” color combinations to create totally new looks to your stamping every once in awhile.

Supplies:

  • Stamp SetsFloral Statements wood #143738, Clear 144701
  • Card Stock – Watercolor Paper 122959; Fresh Fig 144242; Daffodil Delight 119683
  • Stamp Pads – Fresh Fig 144082; Daffodil Delight 131173; Old Olive 126953
  • Misc. –Seasonal Layers Thinlits 143751; Aqua Painter 103954; Snail 104332

Measurements:

  • Daffodil Delight 8½ x 5½
  • Fresh Fig 5 x 3¼; 5½ x 1
  • Watercolor 4¾ x 3

Instructions:

  1. Daffodil Delight score at 5½
  2. Place the scallop edge from Seasonal Layers about ½ at the bottom on the daffodil delight card stock and cut out pass through the big shot. Fold at the score line.
  3. Place the scallop edge from Seasonal Layers about ½ at the edge of the card strip of the Fresh Fig card stock and cut out pass through the big shot.
  4. Place the scallop Fresh Fig at the bottom inside of the Daffodil Delight and ONLY apply snail in the back of the daffodil delight scallop and close to adhere to the fresh fig.
  5. Stamp the Hello using Fresh Fig onto the watercolor paper.
  6. Using the aqua painter to color ***very gentle on the water and barely touch the brush into the paper so it will not bleed the color. You will have some bleeding but little if using little water and NOT pressing hard the aqua painter.
  7. Flower color with Daffodil Delight and outline with Crushed Curry, leaves color using Old Olive and Hello Fresh Fig.
  8. Adhere into the Fresh Fig card stock and center of card front.

If you want to try this card for yourself, just click on any picture to order your supplies.

One of the many perks of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is all the support from our Corporate Office. There are so many wonderful trainers who are always sharing their tips and techniques with us, often in videos. I've selected a few short ones for you to watch today…enjoy!

Aren't these techniques cool?  When I first started stamping I shied away from doing anything that involved water. As I practiced  and became more familiar with all the different tools for watercoloring, I started incorporating water into more of my projects. I hope these Watercolor Techniques Wednesday videos will inspire you, too!

Tarnished Foil Technique – You MUST Try This!

Big Shot/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques/ Tuesday Tips/ Videos

Oh my,  I am in love with the tarnished foil technique. I created this card over the weekend. My local and online July clubs will be making this card for one of our projects.

I didn't make it specifically as a masculine card, but I think it is perfect for any of our guys.

I recorded a video to show you the steps in the tarnished foil technique and also written instructions, supplies and measurements below.

If you need any of the supplies to make this project, just click on any picture below to order.

Supplies:

  • Stamp SetsGreat Big Greetings (143685), Sharing Sweet Thoughts (w-144048, c-144051)
  • Card Stock – Basic Black (121045), Cajun Craze (119684), Very Vanilla (101650)
  • Stamp Pads – Archival Black Ink (140931); Archival Gray Ink (140932), Versamark (102283)
  • Misc. – Layered Leaves Embossing Folder (143704), 1/4” Copper Trim (144179); Silver Metallic Thread (138402); Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430); SNAIL Adhesive (104332), Stampin’ Sponges (141337), Copper Foil Sheets (142020), Copper (141636), Gold (109129), Silver (109131) Embossing Powder, Heat Tool (129053)

Measurements:

  • Cajun Craze:                8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, 4” x 2 ½”, 3” x ¼”
  • Basic Black:                 5 1/4” x 4″
  • Very Vanilla:                 3” x 1 1/4”
  • Copper Foil:                 4” x 2 ¼”

Instructions:

  1. Fold Cajun Craze Cardstock in half to create card base.
  2. Run Basic Black Cardstock through the Big Shot with the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder and attach to card base,
  3. Drag black ink across foil paper. Using Versamark, randomly stamp butterflies from Sharing Sweet Thoughts on top, pour Gold Embossing Powder on top and heat with Heat Tool. Stamp a few more butterflies with Versamark and heat using Silver Embossing Powder. Run through Big Shot using Layered Leaves Embossing Folder.
  4. Tap Versamark onto some of the raised leaves, pour copper embossing Powder on top and heat. Repeat using Silver Embossing Powder (tip: if you get too much powder in one area, just lightly brush off using your finger before you heat).
  5. On small Vanilla piece, stamp I Heart You sentiment from Great Big Greetings using Versamark. Pour Copper Embossing Powder on top and heat. Using sponge and black ink, distress vanilla piece and flag the right end.
  6. Attach the small Cajun Craze piece on the bottom of vanilla piece and then run several lines of SNAIL across the back. Using the Silver Metallic Thread and Copper Trim, create loops as desired and attach this piece to card front using Dimensionals.

Leave me a comment once you try this awesome tarnished foil technique! I'd also love to see your project if you'd like to email me a picture.

Daisy Punch Back in Stock!

Announcements/ Big Shot/ Product Information/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Daisy Punch Back in Stock! Oh happy day! 🙂

Stampin' Up! totally missed the boat on how popular this would be with the 50,000 global demonstrators during our new catalog preorder period! It went on backorder soon after our 2017-2018 Annual catalog debuted. 🙁

BUT 🙁 faces can now be 🙂 once again! The shelves are stacked with a new supply of the stamp sets and punches in this bundle (products can be purchased separately but you score a 10% discount if you purchase the bundle):

Look at some of the fun ideas using these products:

One way to make your daisies “pop” is to use a bone folder to curl the ends of your punched daisies. This really gives a life-like quality to your paper flowers!

  4. Cut up 1 5/8” from the center of the Whisper White layer (2 11/16”). Score and fold from the top of the cut to the bottom corners of the card. Fold these up and attach with  dimensionals. Use snail to attach this layer to the card base.

  6. Punch 2 daisies from Whisper White cardstock. Use snail adhesive to attach the 2 daisies. Attach Daffodil Delight circle to center of daisy.
  7. Layer Calypso Coral circle onto gold foil scallop. Use dimensionals to attach to center of card. Add Daisy with a dimensional. Add a Faceted gem to center of daisy.

If the daisy punch is on your wish list, I would purchase it today. The punch is so popular it could become unavailable again soon and Stampin' Up! won't receive another shipment until late July.
