Merry Patterns Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

During September and October, Stampin' Up!'s Merry Patterns stamp set is a free gift added to any order of at least $300. One of my customers placed her annual Holiday Catalog order and was thrilled to know this will be an “extra freebie”! We sure love those don't we!

This limited-time stamp set is only available during this time period and features two step stamping images. There is an outline stamp and one with patterns. In my card today, you stamp the pattern image first and then the outline.

Today in History: August 24 and Happy Fall

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ Holidays / Special Days/ Paper crafting

Today in History: August 24

First of all, Hurricane Harvey is barreling towards our southern Texas coast. Hopefully it will lose some steam when it hits land. The weather folks are saying there is nothing to push it up or eastward so it might hang around for awhile. I'm sure my customers and downline will seize the opportunity to stay inside and craft!

As a result of being a bit of a history buff I looked up to see Today in History: August 24 for other years. What I found was pretty interesting!

Today in History: August 24

This is the 1992 Hurricane Andrew at peak intensity over the Bahamas on August 23. It hit landfall in South Florida on August 24. Some interesting facts I found:

  1. Hurricane Andrew had humble beginnings, starting as a tropical wave off the west coast of Africa on Aug. 14, 1992. Hurricane Harvey also started as a Tropical Storm.
  2. The hurricane made landfall near Homestead in the early morning hours of Aug. 24, 1992. Hurricane should make landfall in the early hours of Saturday, August 26.
  3. Warnings of Hurricane Andrew’s arrival led to massive evacuations across Florida, Louisiana and Texas. In South Florida, 55,000 left the Florida Keys, 517,000 abandoned Miami-Dade County, 300,000 left Broward County, and 315,000 fled Palm Beach County.
  4. Hurricane Andrew’s winds were thought to be 145 miles per hour at its height, but the data was revisited in 2002 and determined to be 165 miles per hour. This bumped the hurricane’s previous ranking from a Category 4 to a Category 5. The storm is now expected hit the central Texas coast with a combination of winds of 115 miles (185 km) per hour and heavy rains
  5. The morning of Aug. 24, 1992, a storm tide of 4 to 6 feet was measured in Biscayne Bay. Heights as high as nearly 17 feet were measured at the waterfront Burger King International Headquarters.
  6. In Florida, almost 8 inches of rain came down in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. The most rainfall from Hurricane Andrew was in Hammond, La. with almost 1 foot of rain. Harvey will cause a storm surge that will flood parts of the Texas coast as it makes landfall and linger for days over the state, dumping up to 30 inches (76.2 cm) of rain in some areas

Seems like there are so many similarities here;  perhaps I should have been a meteorologist…lol!

Even though we are several hours from hurricane season in south Texas, our weather here in Dallas is definitely showing signs of Fall. So, I thought today's project needed an autumn theme. In addition, I surely do love my Pumpkin Spice Lattes, how about you?
