Hand Stamped Card Idea Using the Retiform Technique

The Retiform Technique, also known as grid stamping is an oldie but a goodie! When I started stamping in 2002, this was one of the first techniques I learned. I think you will love my hand stamped card idea using the retiform technique. You’ll want to watch the video to see both ways I share to do this fun technique. I’ll give you the supplies I show in the video, along with measurements later on in this post.

retiform technique for hand stamped cards

This technique works with any stamp set and colors. The idea is to mask off sections in which you will then stamp your images.

I wanted a vintage look to my card so I used Soft Suede ink to create my grid lines and also around the edges of the card layer in the card on the right.

I’ll demonstrate two different ways to do the retiform technique and I’ll show you two samples in the video:

Both card samples above use a standard 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ card base, scored at 4 1/4″. The stamped layer is 4″ x 5 1/4″.

Vintage card:

  • Stamp set: Friendly Hello (this is a Sale-a-Bration stamp set that you earn along with Designer Series Paper when you spend $100.00 in merchandise from any of our current catalogs).
  • Inks: Soft Suede, Tuxedo Black Memento
  • Cardstock: Soft Suede, Very Vanilla

Peach Card:

  • Stamp set: Sweet as a Peach
  • Inks: Calypso Coral, Garden Green, Pear

I also used a button and twine on each card. I’ve never met a button I didn’t like; I probably own thousands and I love to use at least one on my cards,
