I didn't have a stamping related post for today so I thought I'd give you some ammo for your next trivia game!
Do you know how the Mercedes cars
came to carry that name?
December 22, 1900 was the date that the very first "Mercedes" was delivered to it's buyer. The buyer was an Austrian racing car driver by the name of Emil Jellinek. He commissioned the Daimler company in Germany to build him a light, fast, sleek car.
He thought he'd be able to win so many races with it that people would be lined up to buy cars just like it. Being an entrepreneur, he actually bought the first 36 Mercedes cars so that he could be the one to sell them to all of the new buyers when he started winning the races.
The Daimler company was so grateful for Jellinek's business that they decided to name their new line after Jellinek's 11 year old daughter, Mercedes! And there you have it!
Anyone getting a new Mercedes for Christmas? Be sure to let us know!
I wish for a new Mercedes.
I named my daughter Camaro, 25 years ago. 🙂
