Where Have YOU found Glitter?

Contests/ Mojo Monday

Hey stampers! It's such a warm, sunny day here in north Texas and we are LOVING the change! It was cold and rainy last week so having a bright, yellow orb in the sky sure lifts our spirits. Even my first graders at church seemed to be in happier moods!

I have a question for you today…where have you found Where Have YOU Found Glitter??

OK, I don't mean in a “normal” place, but in or on what unusual place have you found glitter? I'd love you to leave a comment on the bottom of today's post.

I posed this question to my newsletter subscribers and gave them an opportunity to win a signed copy of Laura Child‘s new scrapbooking mystery, Glitter Bomb. The results were simply hilarious and I wanted to share some of the funnier ones with you today.

  • Inside my pantyhose- around the thigh area ..I was a chaperone at a high school dance.
  • Once found glitter on the bathroom floor of a craft store. (It was hanging out with the Easter grass!)
  • When we were cleaning out my Mom's house, I found all kinds of glitter spread in the drawer of her glitter. When I asked her about it, she indicated that she had spilled a small packet of it years prior and just left it there so when she picked something out of the drawer, she would be reminded of that time.
  • On the dog's nose.
  • The strangest place I have found glitter was in my contact lens case and I was nowhere near glitter. Mystery.
  • My strangest place would have to be on my tongue. Lol And no I don’t eat glitter, haha but probably ate something and not realizing I had glitter on my fingers.
  • My center desk drawer at work!!!!
  • I found glitter once between my baby sons toes.
  • I would say the strangest place I’ve found glitter would be on my cat’s tail!
  • I found glitter in the church pew .
  • Unfortunately on the end of my nose. This was after cashiering all day!
  • The strangest place that I have found glitter was between my toes. I had spilled it on the floor and apparently I did not get it all.
  • The strangest place I have found glitter was in a book that I’m reading.
  • The strangest place I have found glitter was in my bra.
  • I have found glitter every place in my house, on my husband that will not go in my craft room, and my \ beagle.
  • As a retired kindergarten teacher I would find glitter everywhere and for some time. My custodian was never happy with me.
  • I found glitter on my friend's face. I was working with glitter, she was not!!!
  • In my mashed potatoes!
  • My underwear! I am sure it was on my hands from crafting so long & needing to desperately take a potty break!
  • The strangest place I found glitter was on my cat's paws. She tracked it all over our house. The strange thing was we had no glitter in the house at all. Go figure.
  • The question would be, “Where Have I not found glitter?”

My personal favorite is the last one; so true don't you think?

While we're on the subject of glitter, sometimes a strip and some tiny pieces is just what you need to give a little “wow” to your card!

Remarkable You – Masculine Greeting Card

Holidays / Special Days/ Mojo Monday/ Paper crafting/ Stamping

Hey stampers! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I got to play in my stamp room AND take my 2 of my grandcherubs on a shopping trip. What could be better! Today's project is a Remarkable You – Masculine Greeting Card. It's so much easier for me to make girly girl cards than to make “manly” ones. I think this one fits the bill quite nicely for any guy!

Remarkable You - Masculine Greeting Card

The Cajun Craze and Early Espresso inks work perfectly to create rich tones in this card. Notice the accent pieces of Wood Grains Designer Series Paper DSP) on the front and inside of the card. When you use smaller pieces, instead of covering up the entire card front, your paper will go SO much farther!

Speaking of DSP, have you heard the great news? Starting October 1 and continuing through the entire month of October, when you purchase three packages of select Designer Series Paper, you'll get another package for FREE! Stampin' Up! has included select Specialty and Designer Series Paper Stacks this year as well! Here are the Designer Series Paper Sale Items:

Remarkable You - Masculine Card

Did you notice the Wood Textures Stack used on today's project is included! Just like our 12 x 12 DSP paper, this 6 x6 stack is double-sided, giving you unlimited choices. One additional feature of our 6 x6 packages is they are no longer attached at the top so it is so easy to pull out a single sheet without fear of tearing it! Why not click here to go to my online ordering site and then bookmark it. When October 1 rolls around, you'll be ready to hit the DSP Sale!

I've included pictures of all the project supplies below and it you would like a PDF with detailed measurements and instructions, please just email me!

Have a great week and I hope today's sample inspires you!

Christmas Quilt No Sewing Required

Holidays / Special Days/ Mojo Monday/ Projects

Hey stamping friends! I hope you are having a relaxing Labor Day. I got to sleep in which is something I rarely get to do! Today I wanted to share a Christmas Quilt No Sewing Required project with you.

Christmas Quilt No Sewing Required!

I so admire people who have the quilting talent; that is not in my toolbox of abilities. I was so excited to see a suite of quilting products in our new 2017-2018 Holiday Catalog. Now I can make quilts all the time! 🙂

As with fabric quilting, this card will take a bit of time to create, but you'll be oh so happy with the results. If you start now, your cards will be ready to stick in the mail before the holiday rush. And you know what that means! More time for COOKIE baking!

In addition to the Christmas Quilt Stamp Set and Quilted Christmas 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) there are also felt embellishments to add some fun!

I have instructions for today's project at the bottom of the post. I've also included a shopping list; just click on any picture to go right to my online store!

In case you haven't yet seen the holiday catalog, here's a quick video to show you more of the awesome products awaiting your Fall and Christmas creativity!

If you haven't downloaded the Holiday Catalog yet, you are missing out on some great inspiration!

2017 Holiday Catalog

Today's Project

Supplies:

  • Stamp Set: Christmas Quilt (144793)
  • Card stock & paper: Garden Green (102584), Real Red (102482), Whisper White (100730), Quilted Christmas 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper (144617)
  • Stampin’ Pad: Real Red (126949), Garden Green (126973)
  • Miscellaneous: Stitched Shapes Framelits (145372), Quilt Builder Framelits Dies (144673), 5/8” Burlap Ribbon (141487), SNAIL Adhesive (104332), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755), Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430), Mini Glue Dots (103683), and Paper Snips (103579)

Measurements:

  • Real Red: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2 then folded to create card base
  • Whisper White: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, 2-3/4” x 1-3/4”
  • Garden Green: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Any scrap about 3” x 3” preferably Garden Green, Whisper White or Real Red
  • Burlap: one piece about 5-1/4”, 4 pieces each about 1-1/2” long

Instructions:

    1. Find the piece of paper in the Quilted Christmas grouping that has four large green quilt shapes that looks like the shape beneath the sentiment on the card shown. With Paper Snips, cut one of the green shapes leaving some space around it for die-cutting.  Adhere the paper to a scrap of card stock using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (broad tip) to make it firm for die-cutting
    2. Die cut the green star shape out using the corresponding shaped die from the Quilt Builder Framelits and set aside.
    3. Using the 1-3/16” square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits, die cut 12 squares out of your favorite designs in the Quilted Christmas paper taking note to choose a variety of designs and colors to create your quilt.
    4. Arrange 12 pieces on your work table until you get the arrangement you like best. You will need 3 rows of 4 squares to create your quilt.
    5. Using the broad tip of your Multipurpose Liquid Glue, brush glue on back of one square and line up on the 3-7/8” x 5-1/8” Whisper White piece, in one corner, so you are leaving a white border only about 1/16” on the top and left. Move quickly as you have a little time to reposition if it’s not squared. It sticks fast. Adhere piece #2 so it’s only 1/16” away from the border and/or the first square. Repeat with all 12 squares to create your quilt.
    6. Using SNAIL, adhere your quilt piece to Garden Green card stock.
    7. Stamp “peace” and the lined/stitch image onto the small Whisper White scrap using Real Red and Garden Green ink. Die cut using the 2-1/4” oval Stitched Shapes Framelit. Using 2 Dimensionals aligned vertically in the center of the sentiment, attach to the green star shape from #2.
    8. Using Glue Dots (about 9) adhere long piece of Burlap Ribbon across lower portion of quilt piece and secure on back sides.
    9. Fold each 1-1/2” piece in half and adhere to itself. Stagger one of these short folded pieces onto another and adhere to it with 2 Glue Dots. You will have two sections of ribbon now. Using 2 Glue Dots for each side, adhere the burlap pieces under the left and right sides of the green star focal point.
    10. Use 4 Dimensionals and lay them down onto the front of the quilt card so that the Dimensional is abutting the burlap ribbon. Put 2 above the ribbon and 2 below. You want them each about ½” apart on the top and ½” apart on the bottom.
    11. Peel the 4 Dimensionals then gently press the green star focal point onto them so it’s straddling the horizontal burlap ribbon so the flat burlap aligns with the pieces attached to the focal point.
    12. Using 5 Dimensionals, adhere the quilt piece to the Real Red card base.

Spooky Cat Halloween Masking Technique

Holidays / Special Days/ Mojo Monday/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Spooky Cat Halloween Masking Technique

Hey stampers! Today I have a fun Halloween card to show you.  I'll be teaching you a masking technique that lets your Designer Series Paper do all the work.

Spooky Cat Halloween Masking Technique

On page 53 in the new Holiday Catalog going live on Friday, you'll find the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper. The sheet I used for this card has 16 3″ x 3″ squares with a tree branch and a circle that is perfect for a moon. All it needs is an owl perched on the branch. The Spooky Cat Stamp set, also on page 53, contains the perfect owl image.

In order to properly position the owl on the branch, the masking technique is used. I used my Paper Snips to cut out a portion of the tree that I could use to “mask” the branch where I would be stamping. This way, the owl really looks like he is sitting on the branch.

I chose the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder from our 2017-2018 Annual Catalog and used some Gold Metallic Thread. Finally, I added a small piece of Gold Edged Ribbon to jazz up my card just a bit.

If you'd like to see a short video of this technique, click here and you can see a Facebook Live post I did yesterday. If you don't already follow me on Facebook, please do! I jump on FB Live a lot to offer little tips and techniques as I'm creating in my stamp room.

Be sure to visit my blog tomorrow and I'll have my “official “12 Weeks of Halloween Week 2 Halloween project”. Today's Spooky Cat Halloween Masking Technique Card was just a little Halloween extra! 🙂

If you are not already working with a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator I'd love to mail you the new Holiday Catalog. There are so many fun new stamp sets, paper, die-cuts, embellishments, and more. Just give me a shout!

Soft Sayings Kit with Color Theory Memories and More

Mojo Monday/ Paper crafting/ Samples

Hey stampers! I spent part of my weekend crafting with friends and did a bunch of cards pairing the Soft Sayings Kit with Color Theory Memories and More. I actually added additional products to some of the cards and I mention these in the instructions below.

I'm a big fan of kits! Kits are a great way for new stampers to get started and test drive some products. “Seasoned”crafters can use kits on road trips, retreats, or when they just feel creative but don't want to drag out a ton of supplies. All the kits can be used following the instructions included or you can wander “outside the lines”, coming up with your own designs. You can even add in other coordinating Stampin' Up! products as I did on some of my cards.

I posted these cards on my Facebook Page (I hope you follow me on Facebook!) and one of my friends asked me to post some instructions…here you go Carol! 🙂

Happy Birthday: I actually cut the card from the Soft Sayings (SS) kit in half and used a 1/2 sheet of Whisper White Thick Cardstock for the card base. I used one of the adhesive backed strips from Memories and More (MM) card pack, cut down to peek out on the side. I used flower and leaf adhesive backed diecut pieces from the kit and added a few glitter enamel dots. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from a photopolymer stamp included in the SS kit.

Love you lots: This is done exactly according to the SS kit instructions, but I added 3 clear faceted gems at the bottom of the card.

I think you are wonderful: exactly as outlined in SS kit instructions: the gold glimmer, tranquil tide and lemon lime leaves are adhesive backed, basically peel and stick…easy peasy!

I'm happy you are in my life: this is a printed note card from the SS kit. I added extra color around the stamped sentiment piece by using a baby wipe I had dabbed in my ink pads. Another way to use baby wipes is to put 2-3 drops of ink refills onto a baby wipe and then use the colored wipe as your ink pad. Ideally use a drop of one color reinker and 2 drops of another. If you add too many you will end up with a muddy color that does not look good!

To my dear friend: I used a SS kit notecard and then layered with a Crushed Curry piece from the MM card pack. The white banner piece also came in the SS kit and I stamped sentiment using the Archival Basic Grey Ink spot, also included in the kit. I am using Basic Grey more often to stamp sentiments on my cards when I want a softer look than Archival Black provides. You'll notice the gold glimmer paper leaves from the SS kit and s small yellow striped accent adhesive backed piece from MM kit. I finished this card with a few more Glitter Enamel Dots (LOVE THESE!)

Just a Note: done according to SS kit direcitons with one Glitter Enamel Dot added…just because I love them!

When Pigs Fly with Stampin’ Up!

Mojo Monday/ Paper crafting/ Projects

When Pigs Fly; if you have any doubt they do, check out my project for today!

This little guy is only one of the adorable images in This Little Piggy stamp set, new to our 2017-2018 Annual Catalog.

When I saw this stamp set I knew I would be adding it to my collection right away! I love the sweet sentiments and the flying pig is just too cute!

Have you ever wondered how the expression “when pigs fly” came to be? I did a little research and found a few thoughts. I don't think anyone knows for sure, but these are kind of fun to consider!

One source claims this expression is derived from a very old Scottish proverb, although some other references to pigs with wings or flying pigs are more famous such as this one from Lewis Carroll in Alice in Wonderland:

“Thinking again?” the Duchess asked, with another dig of her sharp little chin.
“I've a right to think,” said Alice sharply, for she was beginning to feel a little worried.
“Just about as much right,” said the Duchess, “as pigs have to fly….” — Alice in Wonderland, chapter 9.

Wikipedia says “When pigs fly” is a way of saying that something will never happen. The phrase is often used  to scoff at over-ambition. There are numerous variations on the theme; when an individual with a reputation for failure finally succeeds, onlookers may claim to see a flying pig (“Hey look! A flying pig!”).  Other variations on the phrase include “And pigs will fly”, this one in retort to an outlandish statement.

If you've found any others, please share in a comment so we all can enjoy!

Speaking of pre-order, Stampin' Up! is offering YOU the opportunity to pre-order products from this suite starting on May 1! Both of the bundles will be loaded with products; here is a flyer that will show you everything that comes in both bundles!
