Photography Tips

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Scrapbook

As I was getting our camera ready to pack for our trip, I was thinking about all the pictures we'll take. Thought I'd share some of my favorite tips for taking the best photos and preserving them, too!

  • Fill up the entire frame and move in close to your focal point. Focus on the eyes when you are photographing people.
  • Whenever possible, use natural light instead of a flash. Early morning or late afternoon lighting is best; it's softer.
  • If you are shooting a group of people, focus on heads, not feet or legs.
  • When photographing a seated group, stand up on a chair above the group and have everybody look up towards the camera. This provides the most flattering angle for the shot.
  • Store photos in a dark, cool place out of direct sunlight. These days, most people take digital pictures so this isn't a problem.
  • Keep your original photos intact; you don't want to crop a one of a kind photo; make copies and crop those.
  • Use as little adhesive as possible when putting photos onto your pages. Another plus for digital scrapbooking.

If you haven't taken a peek at Stampin' Up!'s digital program, My Digital Studio, check it out.  I doubt you'll find a more robust, easy to use program for the price – under $20! You can even get a thirty day free trial before purchasing so you've got nothing to lose.

Party Banner

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ My Digital Studio / Digital

This week I'll finish sharing the projects from our girls, INK “Celebrate The Everyday” class. This banner was created using several products from Stampin' Up!'s Occasions Catalog:  Perfect Pennants Framelits, Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack, and the Spiral Flowers Original Die. You'll probably notice some Burlap Ribbon, too. This banner is so easy to put together; let me just give you a few tips that will make assembling your roses a snap:

Break down the fibers in your cardstock by using a bone folder or pencil. Just run the tool over the paper several times and you will feel it soften. Start rolling your flower using the end of a pencil and then once you have a solid center started, go ahead a remove the pencil and keep forming the flower. Lastly, use a hot glue gun to attach the flower petals to the small circle at the end. If you don't, the flower could come apart easily.

Did you think the letters forming “WISH” were stamped? They're not! They were created using Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio Software, by filling in a punch. If you have not looked into the fabulous product, you just might want to give a look:

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ My Digital Studio / Digital

If you have a handmade card or two that didn't get sent out for Valentine's Day, use them anyway!! Love is not just for that day…how about ANY day??!!

I made this card using the Stampin' Up! Hearts Collection Framelits Dies and the More Amore Designer Series Paper.  This DSP is also available as a digital download if creating with My Digital Studio is more your style! You can try this product free for 30 days.

If you look closely, you'll also see where I used the Adorning Accents Textured Embossing folder for the Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine. My color scheme is Pool Party, Real Red, Very Vanilla, and Primrose Petals from our 2012-2013 In Color Collection.

I think this will make a great wedding card for a special couple…what do you think?

Don't worry if you have "Valentine" stamped on your handmade card. Just stamp another sentiment onto a coordinating piece of card stock and then punch out with one of our fabulous punches.

Workshop Share

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ My Digital Studio / Digital

My good friend, Dee Ann, knows I am working like a little fiend to finish up qualifying for Stampin' Up!'s Incentive Trip to Fiji next year. I am getting very close…a BIG thank you to all my wonderful customers and downline.

She saw a great idea today and suggested I put it out to help get me to my goal… here it is!

Have you ever wanted to get our fabulous hostess benefits but either didn't want to have your own workshop or just couldn't add one more thing to your busy end of the school year schedule? Is there a big ticket item (like the Big Shot Die Cutting Machine, set of Many Marvelous Markers, My DIgital Studio Software…just to name a few you might like) you have wanted but just couldn't swing a $400 workshop in order to get it for half price? Well…now you can!

I am hosting a "workshop share". Here's how it works:

You place a $100 order and you can choose either $25 in free hostess merchandise or one item in the catalog for half price. This share is limited to ten participants, who each order $100. If you want more benefits, you can sign up for more than one spot. If you are local, your order will be delivered to you. If you live out of town and still want to get in on this awesome opportunity you surely can…you will just have to pay additional postage to have your items shipped to you.

You will need to email me or call me to let me know you want a spot and which benefit you want…first come, first serve:

Spot 1: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 2: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 3: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 4: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 5: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 6: $25 in merchandise (choose from hostess only or regular catalog merchandise)
Spot 7: one half price catalog item
Spot 8: one half price catalog item
Spot 9: one half price catalog item
Spot 10: one half price catalog item

You will need to email or call me with your order by Friday, May 25th

All spots will need to fill in order for the share to take place. If more than ten are interested, I will open up a second share.

As an extra little gift, everyone who participates will receive a 6 x 6 stack of Designer Series Paper and ribbon!

Feel free to share this with your friends….I don't want anyone to miss out on some freebies!

Thanks Dee Ann for giving me this idea!!!!

BIG Deal On Big Shot!

Announcements/ Big Shot/ Die Cut/ Join My Team/ My Digital Studio / Digital

I have received many questions about this Big Shot special, so today I wanted to share some of them. Please feel free to contact me if your question is not answered here. I would love to have YOU join my team. Right now until the end of October you will get a FREE Big Shot Die Cutting Machine or your choice of $100.00 of any Stampin' Up! products when you join the Stampin' Up! family of demonstrators. This is a super great deal! To make it even sweeter, joining my team will also get you into the raffle for my M.A.D.I. fundraiser and also the free email class…this is so exciting!

Questions and Answers:

Q: What are the minimum sales requirements?
A: You only have to submit $300 in sales per quarter. Hold at least one workshop a month, and you’ll not only cover your sales minimum, you’ll also be able to pay for some of your own hobby as well. Also, you can submit your sales in any increment you wish & still get your discount and commission.
Q: What if I only want to do this as a hobby. Do I still have to have workshops?
A: Absolutely not!! Stampin' Up! supports the hobby demonstrator just as well as the career demonstrator. You can put in your own order or collect orders from family & friends to equal the $300 a quarter minimum.
Q: Can I be my own Hostess?
A: Yes, you can be your own Hostess anytime you want. You can invite your family & friends into your own home and have a workshop. You would be the Hostess, receiving the Hostess benefits, & you would also be the demonstrator receiving your instant income & commission.
Q: How much does it cost to get started as a Demonstrator?
A: The Standard Starter Kit is only $175 plus tax (shipping is free!). It includes everything you will need to get your business up and running, including stamp sets, ink, paper, catalogs, order forms, training video, etc. In addition, during October you have an extra 100.00 of Stampin'Up! Product of your choice or a Big Shot Die Cutting Machine!
Q: What if I decide that I don't like it once I've started. Will I be penalized if I quit or is there a certain time frame I have to be a demonstrator.
A: You can stop anytime you choose. You simply just stop putting in your minimum sales. Stampin' Up! may send you reminders that your sales are due, but there won’t be any repercussions except loss of demonstratorship. But I guarantee you once you get started you won't want to stop!!
Q: What kind of incentives can I earn as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator?
A: Stampin’ Up! offers so many benefits and incentives to demonstrators… here are a few:
1. In your first 3-4 months you have the opportunity to earn FREE stamp sets from the current catalog through a program called Stampin’ Start.
2. 30% off on your first $150 order if you place it within 45 days after signing up.
3. You can earn up to 40% commission on personal purchases & customer sales.
4. Every year you are eligible to earn one of two FREE Stampin' Up! Incentive trips.
5. Great Rewards – You get to pick FREE items (Logo & products) each quarter depending on your sales. The first prize level only requires $1,000 in sales per quarter, and you’ve earned a very nice prize!
6. Complimentary catalog and mini catalogs throughout the year.
7. Receive our Stampin’ Success monthly magazine – includes great tips & techniques!
8. You can pre-order new sets before they’re available to customers.
Q: Do people really make money at this?
A: YES!! There are many demonstrators who make $5,000, $10,000 or even $15,000 plus a month. Also, every year there are cash awards given at convention for group and individual accomplishments. One is for Rising Stars…ONLY brand new demonstrators qualify for this one!!
Q: Do I have to recruit other demonstrators?
A: Of course not!! However,  we have the opportunity to earn a residual income and recruiting is the best way to do this!
Q: How much support can I expect from my Upline?
A: You can expect to receive full training from me, including business tips, ideas, stamping techniques, and ongoing support through our Demo group. You will be part of my Girls, Ink team and I will be your biggest cheerleader for whatever goals you want to achieve with Stampin' Up!
Q: Where will I get my ideas for my workshops?
A: Stampin' Up! has many resources for demonstrators: The Idea Book/Catalog, the Stampin’ Up! web site, the monthly Stampin' Success magazine, training videos, Stampin' Discuss, and my web site. It is just fine to CASE (copy and steal everything!) to copy your projects from these sources and use them at your workshops. You do not have to do everything by yourself.
Q: Are there any Stampin' Up! Events that I can attend as a new demonstrator?
A: Yes, almost all of them!! Every year Stampin' Up! has its annual convention. It will be in Utah in July, 2012 and is 4 days long. Leadership training in January 2012 (in San Antonio this year!) is a fabulous event for those at Senior Supervisor level and above. If you want to achieve greatness with Stampin' Up! this is the event for you.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: Click Here
Q: Do you really love what you do?
A: I absolutely LOVE what I do and I know you will, too. The friends I’ve made as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator are much more important than the money, trips, and other perks I've received!
Happy stamping!!

Anniversary “Card”

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Videos

It's a video card that I made with My Digital Studio. Here's the story behind it…

We had just come back from Anne's Stampin'Up! Cruise to Alaska.  Our 35th anniversary was the next morning, and I had NOTHING! (I'm a guy, go figure, right?) I had to wait until she went to bed and then it only took about 10 minutes to put together, (15 minutes if you include the time to fix the background music with another program…).

My Digital Studio, (aka – "MDS"), is a FANTASTIC program!  Easy, easy, easy…   You can do something quick like this, or get a lot fancier and more intricate.

Amazing for only $80!  Ask Anne about it

Please leave comments!

Tuesday’s Tip

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Tuesday Tips

Today's tip is for all you "digital divas" or traditional scrapbookers who have been wondering what all this digital stuff is all about! Stampin' Up!'s "My Digital Studio" is a very reasonably priced, easy to learn and use, program.  It lets you create scrapbook albums, cards, calendars, invitations, multimedia projects, and more, using SU's exclusive artwork, accessories and colors in a digital format.

I've recently found out that many of my customers don't know that there is a My Digital Studio Catalog, (PDF file), of available downloads. Some of our most popular retired stamp sets, (no longer available in our Idea Book and Catalog), are available as digital downloads.

You are able to access the catalog by visiting Be  sure to check back monthly for all the new additions! I would love to show you how easy it is to create beautiful digital projects.  Contact me today!

The Stamp Slave is busy creating some projects from our recent Stampin' Up! Cruise to Alaska so we'll be posting those soon!
