Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Announcements/ Paper crafting

Hey Stampers!  Is there a new little “star” coming into your world soon? Maybe a friend's baby, maybe a grandchild? I'm so excited to share this adorable card made with the Sweet Baby stamp set and Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper. While this card is for a baby boy, just stamp/color the baby image with Petal Pink and use Petal Pink Cardstock and you've got a baby girl card! The Soft Sea Foam circle works just fine for either, too!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Of course, you could easily slip a gift card into the opening instead of cash.

Twinkle Twinkle is one of the Designer Series Paper (DSP) packs that will be part of Stampin' Up!'s July sale. During the entire month, buy 3, get one free of the DSP shown below.

Why Do We Send Greeting Cards?

Classes / Events/ Join My Team/ Paper crafting

Hey Stampers! It is FRIIIDAAY for me! I'm heading off to a stamping retreat with some of my downline and customers. My friend Irene organizes this retreat a few times a year. I so look forward to it; I get lots of things on my crafting “to do” list accomplished at these weekends. I have lots of new products to play with and will be creating my May events projects. I have lots of fun things coming up so, if you don't receive my email newsletter, you'll definitely want to sign up (just put your name and email above)! You'll get a free gift immediately and also I'll send you a video series that you'll enjoy.

Have you ever thought about why we send out greeting cards to our family and friends; how did this tradition start in the first place? I did some research that I wanted to share with you today.

The History of Greeting Cards
(from the Postcard and Greeting Card Museum – www.emotionscards.com)

Sending greeting cards to friends and family is a tradition that goes back about 200 years. They were mostly sent by the elite and wealthy in the early to mid 1800's. Most of the early greeting cards were hand delivered and many were quite expensive, but they soon gained mass popularity with the introduction of the world's first postage stamp issued in 1840 and a few ambitious printer's and manufacturer's perfecting printing methods, hiring artists and designed both elaborate expensive cards as well as simple affordable ones by the 1850's.

As you visit our galleries you will see that cards of the past were fine pieces of art. Manufacturer's used quality artists and many of the large manufacturer's held “art” competitions to generate interest and to get new ideas for cards. Some of these competitions awarded as much as $1,000.00 to the winner!

The oldest known greeting card in existence is a Valentine made in the 1400's and is in the British Museum. New Year's cards can be dated back to this period as well, but the New Year greeting didn't gain popularity until the late 1700's. The Valentine and Christmas Card were the most popular cards, with Valentine's offering us the most “mechanical”, “pop-up” and filigree cards, followed by Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Cards gained their highest popularity in the late 1800's and early 1900's offering us cards with some of the most unusual art. The Victorian age give us the most prolific cards.

Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages, when lovers said or sang their Valentines. Written Valentines began to appear after 1400. Paper Valentines were exchanged in Europe where they were given in place of Valentine gifts. Handmade paper Valentines were especially popular in England. In the mid to early 1800's, Valentines began to be assembled in factories. Early manufactured Valentines were black and white pictures painted by workers in a factory. Esther Howland (see below) known as the Mother of the Valentine made fancy Valentines with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap”. She introduced the Paper Lace Valentine in the mid 1800's. By the end of the 1800's, Valentines were being made entirely by machine.

Christmas cards were introduced and popularized by John Calcott Horsley, the artist of what is known as the world's first Christmas Card and Louis Prang, known as the Father of the American Christmas Card.

The rest is History. With the exchange of New Year's, Valentine's, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Birthday Cards, just to name a few, there is probably no occasion that doesn't have its own greeting card!

Kind of interesting, ‘eh?

There are lots of amazing new products coming in the 2018-2019 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog; they'll make creating your own handmade greeting cards fun and easy! The samples below are made with exclusive bundles that customers can pre-order in May:

Customer Pre-order Bundles

Why Do We Send Greeting Cards?

Oh, one more thing. If you have any interest in saving money, you can get one of the bundles as part of a Stampin' Up! Starter Kit.  You can choose any products up to $125 and pay only $99 plus NO SHIPPING! Whether you are looking for a  business or just want to save money on your favorite products, this might be a great option for you!

HAVE a great weekend and be sure to check out retreat happenings with me on Facebook. I'll be posting LIVE throughout the weekend!

Fast Fuse is my adhesive of choice for most projects. This super strong adhesive is great for 3D projects, like gift card holders and treat boxes.  I also use it to adhere cardstock when making cards. Here’s a quick video with some great tips for using Fast Fuse.

#CaribbeanARTadventure2018 Starts NOW!

Classes / Events/ Paper crafting

#CaribbeanARTadventure Starts NOW! My friends have gone on these cruises a few times and they finally convinced me to go! We are leaving to drive down to Galveston today and tomorrow we board our Royal Caribbean ship, Liberty of the Seas. Seven days of fun, crafting and sun await us!

#CaribbeanARTadventure Starts NOW!

The most exciting part of this trip for me is the fun new papercrafting techniques I'll be learning AND will share with all of you when I return. One of the projects is a 3D adirondack chair; how cute will that be!!

My plan is to post each day (internet willing) so you can journey along with us!

One of the swaps for the trip is a tag swap; check out this awesome idea. Think I'll definitely make some of these after collecting sand for our beach stops!

#CaribbeanARTadventure Starts NOW!

Oh…remember Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration is in full swing and there are so many freebies awaiting you as you shop, party, or join the SU family!
