Unlikely Combo

Big Shot/ Die Cut

I've been using the Celebrate Today stamp set and coordinating framelits a lot lately for bright, glitzy birthday cards.  But, the unlikely combo (baby paper for a birthday card??) of Stampin' Up!'s Sweet Dreams Designer Series Paper and the Balloon Framelits Dies is one I'll be using more and more.

sweet dreams ballons

One of the greatest things about making handmade cards is all the opportunities for “out of the box” creations!

Even better…the stamp set and framelits come in a “bundle” to save 15% over purchasing them separately…woo hoo!!

Hugs and Kisses, Fall Style

Classes / Events/ Holidays / Special Days/ Paper crafting
For clubs this month, I wanted a card that could be used to express friendship, thanks, or birthday in fall colors, but not using typical fall images. I also wanted to use my favorite In Color, Blackberry Bliss, and Crushed Curry. I had seen this color combo on a Demo friend's card and loved it. Here are two versions of the card I designed.
hugsandkissesYou aren't seeing double on the sentiment on the card on top…I stamped it twice, first in Crumb Cake ink and then right next to that, in Blackberry Bliss so it would look like a shadow. On the bottom card, on top of the Washi Tape and Ribbon, I also attached a small Gold Baker's Twine Bow.
Dimensions
Crumb Cake Cardstock 8½” x 5 ½”
Very Vanilla Cardstock 3¼”x 4½”
Blackberry Bliss Cardstock 3½”x 4¾”
Scrap Pieces of Very Vanilla And Blackberry Bliss Cardstock 2½” x 1″
Accessories:
Beach House Washi Tape (Crushed Curry Roll)
small piece of Blackberry Bliss 3/8″ Satin Ribbon
8″ piece of Gold Baker's Twine
Supply List:
Work of Art Stamp Set
Everything Eleanor Stamp Set
Blackberry Bliss Ink Pad
Crushed Curry Ink Pad
Crumb Cake Ink Pad
Mini Glue Dots
Paper Snips
SNAIL Adhesive
Basic Pearl Jewels
Small Butterfly Punch
Instructions:
1.Fold the Crumb Cake Cardstock in half and crease with a Bone Folder.
2.Stamp the smallest “swoop” from Work of Art image once in Crushed Curry and once in Blackberry Bliss Ink on the Very Vanilla Cardstock .If you want lighter images, stamp off first.
3.Stamp the small heart  image from Work of Art in Crumb Cake Ink.
4.Squeeze the lid of the Blackberry Bliss Ink Pad and pick up the ink in the lid with an Aqua Painter.
5.Squeeze the Aqua Painter so that extra water is flowing and flick the ink on the Very Vanilla
Cardstock. (you can also use a Stampin' Spritzer if you prefer).
6.Tear along the bottom of the Very Vanilla Cardstock.
7.Attach Washi Tape piece to the Very Vanilla Cardstock; trim or fold over to back of cardstock.
8.Adhere the Very Vanilla Cardstock to the Blackberry Bliss Cardstock with SNAIL Adhesive and tear along the bottom of the Blackberry Bliss Cardstock.
9.Adhere Vanilla/Blackberry Bliss Cardstock unit to the card front with SNAIL Adhesive.
10.Tie the Gold Linen Thread into a bow and attach to the card with a Mini Glue Dot (second card picture). Trim threads ends to desired length.
11.Stamp the sentiment of your choice (hugs and kisses from Good Greetings used here) with Crumb Cake and/or Blackberry Bliss Ink on scrap Very Vanilla Cardstock and cut both ends into a “flag” shape. Attach to card with glue dots. You can also stamp directly onto the card front.
Leave me a comment and let me know which card you prefer and why!

Glimmering Blackberry Bliss

Contests/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques/ Tuesday Tips

Blackberry Bliss is my favorite color from Stampin' Up!'s 2014-2016 In Color Collection! I use it all the time in my clubs and classes and so far my customers don't seem to be sick of it!

(this lovely card was done by Sue Hansford, one of our talented UK Demos)

Black Bliss sample

Did you know that you can”spritz” Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper? You just put a few re-inker drops and either water or alcohol into a spritzer bottle and then add the color to your paper. You can also lay down one of our decorative masks and then spritz. It does take awhile to dry, even when you use alcohol. You can use a heat tool to set or heat emboss with Iridescent Ice where you've added the color. But WAIT…have you seen “glimmering Blackberry Bliss”?

pritz glimmer paper

Fill an Aqua Painter with rubbing alcohol and a few drops of Blackberry Bliss Re-inker…experiment with the proportions to get the shade you like. Apply across the Glimmer Paper and you'll get saturated color, which will then work perfectly as a card focal point.

Which is your favorite 2014 – 2016 In Color? I'll put everyone's name who leaves a comment here on my blog into a basket and randomly draw one; the winner will receive something in that color from me in the mail!! I'm looking forward to seeing which color gets the most votes!

Getting Punchy

Scrapbook/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques/ Videos

If you have been around Stampin' Up! for awhile, you know we have some great tools, including punches! Because of their versatility, punches are often my “go to” tool when I'm creating cards and layouts; they are a great value for the money!

Here are just a few tips that perhaps you might not have thought of when it comes to “creating” with your punches:

– create a stencil by using the “negative” image from your punched out shape. This works especially well with the larger punches.

– create a multi-dimensional image by stacking punched pieces onto the page….i.e. stacking circles can create cute snowmen and “bookworms”.

–  by layering or blending different shapes, you can create flowers, animals and other objects; use a heart punch to create a four leaf clover; use the “wing” from the Bird Builder Punch to create a tulip, the bird itself can also be used to make beautiful flowers.

– experiment with border punches to give different looks to your cards and also your mats on scrapbook pages.
To keep your punches sharp, occasionally punch through a piece of aluminum foil. To keep them punching smoothly, without sticking, punch through a piece of waxed paper every so often. If your punch does get stuck, I have a great video on my You Tube channel that will show you how to repair it!

Punch Repair – new style punch

Punch repair – old style punch

If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to my You Tube Channel; I don't want you to miss any techniques and/or new product information!

Easter Share

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques/ Tuesday Tips

Yes, I know Easter has come and gone but I wanted to share my card, including my design template. You can use this particular template over and over again for different occasions.

EasterCard

I started with my Color Coach to select my color palette; I chose So Saffron for my card base, Perfect Plum for my accent color, and Wild Wasabi for my ink color. Notice the dry embossing on the Whisper White? I used the Delicate Designs Embossing Folder but I used the “debossed side” instead of the embossed side on the front of my card; I wanted a very subtle look.

Dimensions:

Card base: 8 – 1/2″ x 5 – 1/2″; Whisper White layer: 5 – 1/4″ x 4″; Perfect Plum strip: 4″ x 2- 1/4″, So Saffron patterned strip: 4″ x 2″. I used the Deco Labels Framelits for the layering on top and finished with three Subtles Candy Dots.

Visit my online store to see all the products I used.

Have fun creating your own cards using this layout.  Leave me a comment and let me know what colors and stamp sets you choose!

Quick Tuesday Tip – Embossing Buddy

Scrapbook/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

The Embossing Buddy (103083) is a small bag of powder that is essential for heat embossing. Rubbing the surface of your cardstock with the “buddy” helps to reduce static electricity and also removes any oils that may have been left on the card stock .

embossingbuddypic

BUT,  here's another tip for this tool. If you use SNAIL Adhesive on the back of ribbon you're using on a project, it is a bit difficult to apply the adhesive without some hanging over the edge, especially on narrower ribbon. When this happens, your card becomes sticky, which is not good. Try rubbing (gently) the Embossing Buddy over the unwanted adhesive…problem solved!

This will also work if you are a bit heavy-handed when applying adhesive to a card layer and you want to remove it from around the edges of your card project or scrapbook page.

2014-2015 New Catalog Premiere Party!

Announcements/ Classes / Events

Be the first to see the 2014-2015 annual catalog . . . just as if you were at a star-studded Hollywood movie premiere! You'll get a sneak peak at upcoming new releases (AKA pre-sale products) AND–what would a premiere party be without a bit of SWAG (sealed with a gift)? No one will go home from this party empty-handed!

And here's more exciting news: unlike Hollywood premieres, you won't have to be in Hollywood to see it first! Why? Because the 2014-2015 Catalog Premiere will be simulcast to a theater near you at the following locations! My downline, Girls, INK, and I will be attending at the Plano location…come and join us!

All_theaters_with_addresses

This is so exciting; Stampin' Up! has never done anything like this! While this event is for demonstrators only, if you are not a demonstrator, you can be!  If you join before the end of March you can get $51 in extra goodies in your starter kit!  So for $99 plus tax (FREE shipping) you can choose $150 worth of product! AND, to sweeten the pot even more, anyone who joins before our annual Convention in July, gets to attend Convention ($280+ value)  for free! This applies even if you have been a demo before. To join, visit my website

I think the best part of joining, no matter where you live, is you will be part of my wonderful downline, Girls, INK. While I live in Texas, I have ladies who live in other parts of the country. Think of us as favorite, long-distance relatives. 🙂

A Little “happy” For Your Saturday

Paper crafting/ Projects/ Stamping

I think I send out more birthday cards than any other type of card. I don't always want them to say “happy birthday” on the front; I like to change up the sentiments!

Happy Day just shouts FUN to me, whether for a birthday, thinking of you, congratulations, or just because.

This card is another Aly creation, but I changed up a bit to suit my style…you know it has to have buttons or brads!

Dimensions:
Whisper White Cardstock (100730) – 5-½” x 8-½”; 3-1/2″ x 2-1/4″
Summer Starfruit Cardstock (126839) – 4” x 5-¼”
Sweet Sorbet DSP (133521) – 3-¾” x 2-½” – free Sale-A-Bration choice
Basic Black Cardstock – 3-5/8” x 2-3/8”
Scrap Pieces:
Basic Black Cardstock (121045) – 4” x 1-½”
Stamp Sets and Accessories:
20” Sweet Sorbet Pool Party Twine (133522) – free Sale-A-Bration choice
Petal Parade Stamp Set (wood – 133599, clear-133602)

Crisp Cantaloupe Ink Pad (131176)
Pistachio Pudding Ink Pad (131177)
Banner Punch (133519) – free Sale-A-Bration choice

Instructions:
1. Fold the Whisper White Cardstock in half and crease with a Bone Folder.
2. Punch out 5 Basic Black Banner shapes – adhere under the Sweet Sorbet DSP with SNAIL Adhesive. I find it is easier to put the middle one down first, and then evenly space out the others.
3. Wrap the Pool Party Twine around the cardstock, tie a bow and adhere unit to the card with SNAIL Adhesive. If you are “bow challenged”,  watch my video on how to tie the perfect bow.
4. Stamp “happy day”  in Jet Black StazOn Ink.
5. Stamp chevron image in Pistachio Pudding Ink.
6. Stamp flower image in Crisp Cantaloupe Ink.
7. Adhere the stamped Whisper White Cardstock to the Basic Black Cardstock with SNAIL Adhesive.
8. Attach #7 to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
