Photography Tips

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Scrapbook

As I was getting our camera ready to pack for our trip, I was thinking about all the pictures we'll take. Thought I'd share some of my favorite tips for taking the best photos and preserving them, too!

  • Fill up the entire frame and move in close to your focal point. Focus on the eyes when you are photographing people.
  • Whenever possible, use natural light instead of a flash. Early morning or late afternoon lighting is best; it's softer.
  • If you are shooting a group of people, focus on heads, not feet or legs.
  • When photographing a seated group, stand up on a chair above the group and have everybody look up towards the camera. This provides the most flattering angle for the shot.
  • Store photos in a dark, cool place out of direct sunlight. These days, most people take digital pictures so this isn't a problem.
  • Keep your original photos intact; you don't want to crop a one of a kind photo; make copies and crop those.
  • Use as little adhesive as possible when putting photos onto your pages. Another plus for digital scrapbooking.

If you haven't taken a peek at Stampin' Up!'s digital program, My Digital Studio, check it out.  I doubt you'll find a more robust, easy to use program for the price – under $20! You can even get a thirty day free trial before purchasing so you've got nothing to lose.

Anniversary “Card”

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Videos

It's a video card that I made with My Digital Studio. Here's the story behind it…

We had just come back from Anne's Stampin'Up! Cruise to Alaska.  Our 35th anniversary was the next morning, and I had NOTHING! (I'm a guy, go figure, right?) I had to wait until she went to bed and then it only took about 10 minutes to put together, (15 minutes if you include the time to fix the background music with another program…).

My Digital Studio, (aka – "MDS"), is a FANTASTIC program!  Easy, easy, easy…   You can do something quick like this, or get a lot fancier and more intricate.

Amazing for only $80!  Ask Anne about it

Please leave comments!

Today Is A Special Day!

Classes / Events/ Paper crafting/ Stamping/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Dave and I were married 35 years ago! It does not seem possible…we aren't THAT old…lol! He made me the cutest card using My Digital Studio and put it to music. I'm trying to convince him to post it on YouTube, so keep an eye out later in the week. My Digital Studio is such a powerful program and it isn't just for digital scrapbooking.

I'm getting ready to go to a watercoloring class but I had a few minutes so of course I needed to get a new project going. One of my customers had shown me a flower she'd made after seeing it on someone's blog.  This technique is not new, but I have a lot of "new" stampers in my technique classes so I try to teach them at least one "wow" technique at each class. If you like learning new stamping and scrapbooking techniques, we'd love to have you join us. Next class is Thursday, June 30th. I'll have the sign-up box set up in the next day or two (well, actually Dave will do that…he's the techwhiz!) or you can email me and let me know you'd like to come or to find out more info if you've never attended.

To make this flower, you start with a 16" piece of 5/8" satin ribbon. Cut 1 inch slits up to one of the s3lvage lines. Then on the edge you just cut, cut off that selvage edge and round each corner. Then take your heat tool and heat up each section, working your way around the entire piece of ribbon. This will take some time so don't get frustrated. Nex cut a 1 3/8" circle out of a piece of card stock and cover it with pieces of sticky strip. (SNAIL adhesive isn't strong enough for this). Starting at the outer edge of the circle (after you've removed the backing on the sticky strip), attach the ribbon. You will have to scrunch it up in places to fit. When you get to the end, use a mini glue dot to tack down the last piece. Put a pearl from our Basic Pearls in the center and you have a beautiful, vintage looking flower for a handmade card or other project. I put a jewelry backing on this one and turned it into a pin so I can "advertise" when I'm out and about!

Happy stamping!

Tuesday’s Tip

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Tuesday Tips

Today's tip is for all you "digital divas" or traditional scrapbookers who have been wondering what all this digital stuff is all about! Stampin' Up!'s "My Digital Studio" is a very reasonably priced, easy to learn and use, program.  It lets you create scrapbook albums, cards, calendars, invitations, multimedia projects, and more, using SU's exclusive artwork, accessories and colors in a digital format.

I've recently found out that many of my customers don't know that there is a My Digital Studio Catalog, (PDF file), of available downloads. Some of our most popular retired stamp sets, (no longer available in our Idea Book and Catalog), are available as digital downloads.

You are able to access the catalog by visiting http://mydigitalstudio.net/page/resources-1. Be  sure to check back monthly for all the new additions! I would love to show you how easy it is to create beautiful digital projects.  Contact me today!

The Stamp Slave is busy creating some projects from our recent Stampin' Up! Cruise to Alaska so we'll be posting those soon!

My Digital Studio Downloads

My Digital Studio / Digital/ Tips, Tricks, & Techniques

Have you tried to look for what's available in the My Digital Studio Downloads area of Anne's SU Store and been frustrated with not being able to see everything easily?

I have! (Guess who's writing this one!?   Right! It's the ever-patient Stamp Slave!)

Here's a way to make it much easier:

  1. Go to Anne's SU Store.
  2. In the left column, click on "Digital Crafting".
  3. Click "Download By Type".
  4. Click "Accessories". (Note that there are only eight items showing, but at least five pages exist.)
  5. Find the little box in the upper right, labeled "Show". It is currently set to "8".
  6. Click the dropdown arrow and set it to "All".

Now you can quickly scroll through all of the downloads in that category.  Notice that you can also sort them alphabetically or by price!

I have a fair amount of experience with photo and illustration software and, in my humble opinion, you would be hard-pressed to find anything as capable as My Digital Studio for anywhere close to the price!

If you haven't yet gotten your copy of My Digital Studio, you can get more information at Anne's SU Store, or you can go to our MDS page for more information on My Digital Studio and all of the benefits of owning it.

My Digital Studio Isn’t Just For Scrapbooking

Big Shot/ Die Cut/ My Digital Studio / Digital/ Paper crafting

Just had to share this adorable swap I received last month at our annual Convention. Swapping is one of the highlights of the event and this year I was blown away by all the ones I received.

Have you heard the term, "Digital Papercrafting"?  Basically, it means going beyond just digital scrapbooking and making just about anything you can think of: photo albums, calendars, books, slide shows, you name it. Here is a great example of digital papercrafting !

Share

This little box was created using My Digital Studio and our Pillow Box Die. She created the design in MDS, printed it on her stock, and then used her Big Shot with the Pillow Box Die to cut it out.  How easy is that??

One of the best things about MDS is that you can personalize anything from greeting cards to scrapbooks to party favors and you don't waste any supplies. Plus, you get all our great Stampin' Up! colors, papers, inks and embellishments!

I can see this little package as a baby shower favor with M & M's inside…what do you think?

If you'd like more info on MDS, go to my "My Digital Studio" page.
