Tuesday Tip – Embossing Folder Magic

Have you ever wanted to create a card with embossing, but didn't want the embossing to cover the entire card surface? Then today's tip is for you!

I used my Sizzix Die Cut Machine and our
Embossing Folders
to create this special card.

I wanted a flat “oval” shaped area for stamping in the middle of the embossed area of this card. As you can see in the picture below, the embossing folder would normally apply the embossing to the entire surface of the card.

To create the clear oval that you see in the first picture, I made a template out of some of the cardboard from a pack of Designer Series Paper.

I glued together three pieces, (4″ x 5.5″),  of the cardboard to give me the thickness I wanted.

Once I had that done, I cut an oval shape in the center.  You can see a close-up here.

Here's an Embossing Folder with my little template.

This picture isn't the same embossing folder, (I loaned that one to another demonstrator in my group last night at our quarterly demo meeting), but it shows what I mean…

I inserted the template into the folder and taped it to the top edge. Then I put my piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock inside on top of the template and closed the folder.

I set it up for the Sizzix using the following:

  • bottom layer – multi-surface platform, set on tab #2
  • middle layer – embossing folder with template and cardstock
  • top layer – one plate only
  • note that there is NO bottom plate!

I ran the whole thing through my Sizzix Die Cut Machine and,…  TA DA…  You have a beautiful oval space on which to stamp!
