January 15, 1967 was the date of the first Super Bowl and on this date, the nation's #1 song was I'm A Believer by the Monkees. "Legend" has it that no tape exists of this first game because a soap opera was taped over it!
Lamar Hunt, one of the founders of the American Football League, came up with the name for the game after watching his kids play with the then-new toy Super Ball.
The Steelers have more Super Bowl titles (6) than any other NFL franchise, closely followed by Dallas and San Francisco. This will be the third Super Bowl appearance by the Steelers in six years.
Green Bay's coach Mike McCarthy grew up in Pittsburgh as a devout Catholic and Steelers fan. Sundays in the McCarthy home revolved around Mass and Steelers' games, but now his mother has gotten rid of Steelers' memorabilia, and replaced it with Packers' green and gold.
