What Else Can I Do With Stampin’ Up! Re-inkers?

One of the #1 questions my customers ask me is:”what else can I do with Stampin' Up! re-inkers“? I always encourage my customers to get the re-inker for a particular ink pad color, but not just to have on hand when the ink starts getting light. AND…not just to give me an extra sale! There are so many fun re-inker techniques like baby wipe tie dye, polished stone, shaving cream on photo paper….the list goes on and on.

Today's technique, monoprinting, uses re-inkers on felt to create fun, whimsical images that add unique designs to card fronts. My friend spends a lot of time searching for unique techniques for us to do; this one is way too fun to keep to ourselves so I had to blog about it!

Simply put, monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has images or lines that can only be made once. Usually in printmaking there are multiple “originals”; i.e. photographs, lithographs, etc.

Here's her partially finished project that shows the technique:

Technique details:

Place a piece of light-colored felt (you can find at any hobby store) onto a piece of freezer paper or laminated paper that is a bit larger than the felt.  Using Classic Stampin’ Ink Refills, draw patterns onto the felt (the more whimsical and crazy the better).  Island Indigo, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight refills were used above. I recommend only using 3-4 colors to prevent a “muddy” end result.

Press a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece (normal card layer) of Whisper White cardstock onto the felt to “monoprint” a design. You can repeat this technique using different designs and colors…let your imagination go wild and see what you can create! You can also use stencils to make fun patterns.

Spraying the inked felt with rubbing alcohol prior to pressing the cardstock onto the felt design will give a more “mottled” look. Be sure to let the cardstock pieces dry completely.

This would be a great summer project to do with your kids. They could even invite friends over to make personalized stationery sets.
